AEPMA NSW ACT Branch meeting and Chairman’s report

Posted on: 28/05/2015

An AEPMA NSW ACT State Council meeting was held on 14 April 2015, at the office of Agserv in Sydney. Many items were discussed during the meeting such as transfer of licencing from Workcover to EPA, training packages and many more listed in the Chairman’s Report below.

Our next Meeting will be on 20 July 2015

AEPMA NSW/ ACT State Council Chairman’s Report for 2014-2015

I hope, you all have had a great Pest Management season and will enjoy a well - deserved break through the winter.

For me it is time again to reflect on what the AEPMA NSW ACT State council has achieved on your behalf since last AGM.

We have had 4 State Council meetings, all in Sydney except for the Hawks Nest meeting of the 7 February this year. As your National delegate I have attended 5 National Board meetings, Mr Greg Moon, our alternate delegate on the National Board attended the 26 September 2014 Sydney meeting.

This year we have had plenty to do with Pest Management Training - attending meetings such PMITAG, Review of the Pest Management Competency units and Certificate 3 qualification. Six teleconference meetings with the Project Reference Group (PRG).  Hopefully the new training package should be available towards the later part of 2015.

We liaised with WorkCover and EPA in regards to their Pest Management Verification Program and now on the transfer of NSW licences.  The latest is that the Pesticides Amendment Bill 2015 was passed without any changes by the NSW Parliament on Wednesday 13 May 2015. The current target date for the changeover is early September 2015 but who may know? It could be later. WorkCover NSW will be writing to all persons holding a current certificate of competency to advise them of the transfer before it happens. AEPMA will liaise with EPA on this matter and keep members apprised.

Some of your Council members have helped on the review of the Code of Practice for Pest Management in the Food Industry and the Code of Practice for Prior to Purchase Timber Pest Inspections. Big thank you to all NSW members delegates for their contributions especially Codes Chairmen Gary Stephenson (Flick/ Anticimex) and Shane Clarke (Pestforce). It was good to see so many different Company representatives working together towards a common goal.

We also helped, with great pleasure, the AEPMA office with the National Conference at the Waterview Conference Centre in Sydney on the 12, 13 &14 August 2014.

We lobbied for the listing of Life members on the AEPMA website (an AEPMA NSW initiative) and for one of our NSW members to become the latest Life Member.

We reinitiated the Photographic Competition on behalf of AEPMA (thanks to Kevin Parsons - Globe for their contribution with the flyer). Make sure you or your staff have a go and take your best shot!!

We contributed to AEPMA National Newsletter and PPM with various articles and photographs.

We responded to emails/ phone calls helping members or National office regarding small and big issues or helping promote our Industry.

We welcomed two new members to the State Council: Mr Shane Clarke (Pestforce) and Mr Chris Mills (Ensytex).  Their contribution is already obvious on the Council.  We have had the pleasure to welcome at least 10 NSW new members.

So what is around the corner for this year on top of the listed items above?

Two new AEPMA Code of Practices…..
Review of AS 3660.2……
We should all be aware by now of 3660.1-2014

I would like to give a big thank you to Ed Covey (Vice Chairman, Termitus Pest Management), Kevin Parsons (Globe Australia), Dr Chris Orton (PIMACS/ UNSW), Greg Moon (All termites and Pests solutions/ Life Member), Shayne Reynolds (Pelican Pest Control), Geoff Bryce (Bryce Pest Control), Greg Hall (Greg Hall Pest Services), Wendell Arnett (Bayer), Robert Prosser (Rapid Solutions), Shane Clarke (Pestforce) and Chris Mills (Ensystex).

I am grateful and proud to have worked for so long with such a great team of talented people and friends.  Their contributed expertise and effort is what made this NSW ACT State Council so great.

Many thanks again to Shayne and Lynne Reynolds for hosting another great Hawk Nest meeting and event.  Can’t wait till next one!

As usual, on behalf of the AEPMA NSW State Council, I also take this opportunity to thank the team from the AEPMA National Office for another 12 months of great work.

I have appreciated your friendship and look forward working with you all for the next 12 months.

Patrick Legey
AEPMA NSW/ ACT State Council Chairman
