Q and A with QBCC

Posted on: 04/03/2019

1. I am a licensed pest controller in NSW and only occasionally undertake a termite job in Queensland. Do I still have to be registered with QBCC?

Any work as described under the scopes of work as set out in Part 56 and 57 of the QBCC Regulation – Termite Management, requires a licence.

2. I undertake general pest control work and in respect of termites, I only refill reticulation systems and bait boxes. Do I still have to be registered with QBCC?
Refer to response provided for question one, yes.

3. I am a licensed pest controller but sub contract to a number of individual pest control companies. Am I covered by their license or do I have to register separately?
Please refer to this Fact Sheet for further information.

4. I am licensed pest controller in NSW and QLD through the Department of Health. Do I also have to register with QBCC?
Refer to the above – Yes.

5. I work for a builder doing pre construction work. I am a licensed pest technician, but the builder says that I am covered by his license. Is this correct?
The Builder would require to also be occupationally licenced as per the above with QBCC, not just a QBCC Builder Licence.

6. I am licensed with QBCC and have run into difficulties obtaining payment from a builder. What actions, if any, can I undertake?
Please click here for further advice on how to proceed in this instance.

7. I am being contracted by a builder to complete pre construction termite systems but the certifier in my opinion, is withholding a clearance on the work. Payments are only received once I have received this clearance. Others are suggesting that the builder is in financial trouble and the certifier is trying to assist him. What can I do about this?
Please refer to the response provided for question six.

8. I contacted the QBCC and was told that all the information I required was on their website. Unfortunately, due to my age I am no computer literate. Can I obtain copies of this information via hard copy?
Unfortunately, all our online resources are kept up to date online, and the online environment reduces waste, therefore, no, the online resources are the best.  Local Libraries provide online support.

9. I am currently licensed with the QBCC but recently lost a job to another pest controller, which is fair enough, however I was unable to confirm that the other pest controller was a licensed company. What can I do about this?
Undertake an online QBCC Licence Search

10. I am concerned about the fees charged by the QBCC. Is it possible to obtain a license for an individual job, so that I can include this in my quote?
No, Licence Fees are annual, and the fees support the regulation of the industry and do not reflect individual considerations.
