Fiji's Largest Bird Netting Project

Posted on: 01/11/2017

Thousands of airplane bird strikes occur every year around the world, putting the life of the travellers at risk.

Birds enjoy the habitat around the busy airports as they are always placed on the fringe of large urban centres, have large tracts of unused, undeveloped land surrounding them as noise and safety buffers. With the suitable habitat shrinking due to urban expansion and safety from large predators due to the discouraging bustle of the airports, birds find sanctuary in the airports.

Fiji is home to the most intelligent and notorious bird pests - Indian Mynah Birds which often target and frequent urban centres.

One of South Pacific's largest, most complex and technical bird management projects by Bird Netting was recently undertaken and completed for Airport Fiji Limited at Nadi International Airport by Amalgamated Pest Control (Flick Anticimex), Fiji.

The aim of the project was to displace the roosting site of Mynah birds.

The project required several months of strategic pre-planning and experts from multiple countries including Australia, New Zealand and Fiji to push forward to its successful completion. The project was carried out ensuring minimal disruption of normal airport activities; at the same time allowing the construction teams to complete, yet affording maximum safety by rigorously adhering to the regulations.  The materials and technology required for the project were all ‘State of the Art’ and involved sourcing from around the world, making us, Amalgamated Pest Control (Flick Anticimex) Fiji, the only Pest Control organisation in the entire South Pacific region to have the necessary state of the art technology to facilitate any upcoming bird netting Projects.
